Introducing Amazing: Meet the 2017 Fishman Prize Finalists
We launched the Fishman Prize six years ago as a way to celebrate great public school teachers—those who help their students reach incredible heights, but who too often go unrecognized and unheard. Since then, the prize has celebrated educators who have one thing in common: the ability to create challenging and engaging classrooms that help propel their students to success later in life. In total, we’ve awarded 20 winners with $25,000 each and a seat in a one-of-a-kind summer residency.
We’ll be adding four more teachers to that list next week. In the meantime, we’re thrilled to introduce you to this year’s Fishman Prize finalists. They teach a range of grades and subjects, from fifth grade English to high school algebra, and belong to communities across the country, from East Los Angeles to rural North Carolina.
Take a few minutes to get to know these nine amazing teachers and their classrooms. And check back next week to find out which four will win the 2017 Fishman Prize.
