From Data to Action
A Practical Approach to Continuous Improvement
Too often, data tells educators what is happening without helping them understand why it is happening or what to do next. In From Data to Action, TNTP shares a practical path forward, helping leaders transform information into insight, insight into action, and action into better opportunities and outcomes for young people.
This approach to continuous improvement was developed through partnerships with states and districts using Mathematica’s Education-to-Workforce Indicator Framework. Drawing on real-world examples from Arkansas, Tennessee, and Nebraska, the publication shows how educators can move beyond reporting and accountability toward meaningful inquiry, focused action, and ongoing learning.
What You’ll Learn
This publication recommends four steps for turning data into action:
- Ask an essential question
- Explore the problem and its root causes
- Build a theory of improvement
- Design, test, and learn from improvement cycles
Readers will also see how state and district leaders applied this process to strengthen career and technical education pathways, address workforce readiness challenges, and reduce chronic absenteeism.
