Lesson Preparation in Professional Learning Communities Guide

Use this guide to facilitate collaborative planning that improves instruction.

As outlined in The Opportunity Makers, trajectory-changing schools use professional learning communities (PLCs) as the primary catalyst to improve instruction. Teachers come together to analyze student data and work samples, decide how to address individual student needs, and apply strategies in class the next day. It’s one continuous, school-wide loop.

This guide helps educators hold effective PLC meetings on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. It is designed for all educators who join a PLC, including teachers, specialists, school leaders, and support staff.

This guide is drawn from the practices at Van Buskirk Elementary School.
