TNTP: Reimagine Teaching

As 2011 draws to a close, we’re planning a few important changes to our brand and website.

First, we’re evolving our name from “The New Teacher Project” to our commonly-used initials, “TNTP,” with a new tagline, “Reimagine Teaching.”

Since 1997, it has been our mission to end the injustice of educational inequality by ensuring that more kids learn from excellent teachers. We started out by partnering with urban districts to staff struggling schools and recruit talented new teachers through our Teaching Fellows Programs, now operating in more than 20 cities. All told, we’ve had a hand in hiring or training more than 46,000 teachers, reaching some 7 million students.

Yet, increasingly, we’re addressing issues that affect ALL teachers. Today, we’re working to reimagine a better future for the teaching profession, from how teachers are trained to how they are evaluated, developed and recognized for their successes. We’re helping to advance smarter policies that promote effective teaching and create school environments where teachers thrive and students excel.

We believe that our new name and tagline will better express the full scope of our work and give us room to grow, without taking us too far from our roots.

Second, we’re certifying effective teachers under a new name, “TNTP Academy.”

TNTP is an approved teacher certification provider in seven states and the District of Columbia. Through our certification programs, we transform talented people into excellent teachers using rigorous, classroom-centered training that is led by master educators and sharply focused on student learning. In Louisiana, the teachers we certify have proven to be among the most effective in the state for four years running.  These programs are among the first in the nation to link certification to a teacher’s demonstrated effectiveness in the classroom. Previously known as “Practitioner Teacher Programs,” they will now be known as one national network with the name “TNTP Academy.”

Finally, we’re launching a re-designed website.

We’ve refreshed our website to make it a hub for new ideas and innovations for improving teacher effectiveness. Our new site offers easier access to our publications and tools and includes new “Issue Spotlights” that pull together TNTP resources and information on topics of special interest.

What isn’t changing is our sharp focus on the importance of effective teaching, and our committment to giving every student the chance to learn from a great teacher.
