Learning Acceleration for All: Planning for the Next 3 to 5 Years

Use this resource to plan your strategy to accelerate every student back to grade level over the next 3-5 years.

Every student deserves a chance to work on grade level assignments every day. Children who stay on track are better prepared for college, career, and life beyond high school. But how do we help children who are falling behind?

Through a study we co-authored with Zearn, we know that the long-time practice of remediation, reviewing big chunks of missed material, is not as effective as acceleration, just-in-time help doing grade-level tasks. Learning acceleration is especially effective for students of color and from low-income families.

In this guide, we offer recommendations for how to make learning acceleration work in your school, district, or system in three to five years. For change to succeed, and to last, we must listen to students, caregivers, and the community. We must define a vision and outline timelines and goals. And we must honestly look at current practices to forge the best path forward.
