Sasha Canales
Senior Manager, Academics
she/her/ella
Sasha is an expert in high-quality instructional materials (HQIM) implementation, family engagement, and dual-language instruction. She has served as a teacher, a leadership coach, and an assistant principal.
Prior to joining TNTP, Sasha worked in education for 10 years, beginning at a bilingual Head Start program in Arizona, where she led family engagement workshops. She then moved to Texas to teach in a dual-language charter school, eventually becoming an assistant principal leading HQIM initiatives on campus. During her time as an instructional leadership coach, she read TNTP’s The Opportunity Myth and was inspired to design sessions for her teachers grounded in the report’s findings. Since joining TNTP, she’s led Family Literacy Academies—consisting of virtual sessions covering the science of reading—that served more than 200 families of K–12 students across New Mexico. Next up are K–8 FLA workshops at a charter school in Albuquerque serving a large Indigenous population.
Getting to host one-to-one weekly meetings with hardworking, dedicated educators and seeing the progress their schools are making makes the work meaningful and reminds me that I’m at the right place, doing the right work.
