Unlocking Algebra: What the Data Tells us About Helping Students Catch Up

In this briefing on TNTP’s report, Unlocking Algebra, hear directly from the researchers and get a deep dive into findings.

What You’ll Learn

Algebra I is one of the most important courses in a young person’s academic journey. Students who pass it by ninth grade are more likely to graduate high school, attend college, and earn higher salaries. But far too many students begin Algebra I with significant unfinished learning—and most schools aren’t prepared to help them catch up.

Our latest publication, Unlocking Algebra: What the Data Tells Us About Helping Students Catch Up, examines how students can succeed in Algebra I—even when they start behind. Based on three years of data from more than 2,000 students using New Classrooms’ Teach to One Roadmaps program, this paper offers fresh insights into how educators can ensure all young people have access to crucial mathematics learning that prepares them for the future.

In this webinar you’ll gain:

  • A deep dive into our analysis, which highlights specific approaches as well as concepts and skills that support students to succeed in Algebra I – even when starting off behind.
  • Recommendations for states, school systems, and schools on how to ensure more young people can access life-changing mathematics learning.
  • The chance to engage with TNTP researchers and practitioners around the importance of coherent Tier 1 and Tier 2 experiences.
