Ellen HurVP, Client Team
Ellen Hur leads TNTP’s efforts to shape policies that support great teaching and student learning, and also oversees a diverse portfolio of client work.
Previously, as a Partner, Ellen launched and led TNTP’s work to help districts comprehensively improve their talent management practices in Houston and Forth Worth, Texas, and was part of TNTP’s school design team. Prior to her role as Partner, Ellen worked on the policy team for The Widget Effect, which has helped to catalyze evaluation reforms in more than 30 states, developed and worked on TNTP’s first evaluation projects to support school districts and states design and implement their own teacher evaluation systems, and led marketing and recruitment efforts for the New York City Teaching Fellows, the largest alternative certification program in the country.
Ellen rejoined TNTP in 2015 after leaving to serve as the Chief of Staff to New Mexico State Secretary of Education Hanna Skandera, where she oversaw a 300 person state education agency and managed the rollout of key state initiatives. She started her career as a middle school English and math teacher in Denver, Colorado. Ellen holds an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business, an MA of Education from Stanford University’s School of Education, and a BA in English from Dartmouth College.
