Working in collaboration with urban districts, TNTP prepares new teachers to make a profound, long-term contribution to the district and its students. Results: Closing the teacher qualifications gap in New York City

Over nearly a decade, new teachers recruited and trained through TNTP’s highly selective Teaching Fellows programs have profoundly transformed teacher quality in some of the nation’s largest districts. In New York City, more than 9,100 Teaching Fellows – 11 percent of New York’s teaching force – work in the city’s schools, accounting for more than one-quarter of the city’s math teachers and one-fifth of science and special education teachers. According to independent research by the Urban Institute, these Fellows are largely responsible for a “remarkable narrowing” of the gap in teacher qualifications between high- and low-poverty schools.

Prospective Fellows complete a common TNTP Teaching Fellows application, indicating if they have a preference for more than one program site. Those who are interested in applying to the New York City Teaching Fellows will complete a separate application for this program.
