How many winners will be selected?
The Fishman Prize will be awarded to a maximum of five winners each year.
Who determines the winners?
TNTP staff reviews applications and selects the finalists. A panel of judges determines the winners. This year’s panel includes two guest judges as well as:
- Shira Fishman, DC Public Schools teacher
- Tim Daly, TNTP President
- Layla Avila, TNTP Executive Vice President for New Teacher Effectiveness
Am I eligible if I don’t work in a Title-I school?
Yes, although eligible applicants are required to work in schools with more than 40% or more students who are eligible for Free and Reduced Price Lunch, which generally excludes non-Title I schools.
Are private school teachers eligible?
No, the Fishman Prize recognizes public school teachers, specifically.
Are there restrictions on how the monetary award can be used?
No. Use of the monetary award is solely at the winners’ discretion.
How will the white paper topic be decided?
The white paper topic will be decided by the Fishman Prize winners at the beginning of the summer residency, with guidance from TNTP staff.
How will the white paper be used?
The white paper allows Fishman Prize winners to share their expertise with the TNTP community and educators across the country, with each paper contributing over time to a robust knowledge base on effective instructional practice. TNTP will make the paper freely available to the public, distribute it to educators nationwide, and use it to enhance its own knowledge and teacher training programs.
