Why are you passionate about education reform?

I was fortunate to receive a tremendous public school education next door to Chicago, while many peers just across the city line had far fewer opportunities to succeed. This opportunity gap was magnified in the communities where I have worked, but I have also seen it eradicated in places where groups of relentless educators have focused their efforts and refused to compromise.

What does your typical day look like?

It’s rarely typical, but it might involve calling on clients to advocate for action; brainstorming with colleagues on challenging design issues; digging into rich data sets on teacher performance and perceptions; and training principals on improving feedback to teachers – all either in a district setting or from my home office (with my trusty dog at my feet).
